Time for it to start winding down I'm afraid. Yes the first two weeks in June can be good but way more hit and miss then anything. This is natural and happens every year. As the Alwive finish their deal so does the night Striper bite end.

What kind of cigar you smoke? They bring me luck.
Pattern definitely changes. Next moon phase takes them out a bit deeper. they can still be caught just not as likely on top.
we were out on the water sitting quietly from 230am until dawn catching bait. even though we heard quite a bit of shad activity on the banks we only heard 2 blowups the entire time. surface temps were 73 and the lake was like glass. very difficult time catching the "right" bait, full moon and its that time of year.
last night was the first night in a month and a half that the blowups werent non-stop. not sure how the guys that were casting did last night, but there were still a lot of them still casting at daylight lol.

stripernut, ever find any of that elusive "right" bait? i fished sunday and had a hard time finding it, too. I think I was searching a little too shallow since that's where I've been finding it. The shad game is definitely changing with the warmer temps.

bait has been great for the last 3 months, havent thrown the net more than a couple times on any given night. but last night was terrible, the moon was like daylight and the bait was super spooky. finally got enough to fish with right before daylight.
Thanks for the replies guys, very much appreciated.
I use to fish for crappie at night at this time of the year in an old Strip Pit that's hydrologcially connected to the Ohio River via a creek and another creek when the river and creeks flood. So there are gizzard shad in the waters. They are attracted to the plankton that's attracted to the underwater light. They get close to the boat and swim in bait balls about 6 ft in diameter. I would think that a cast net thrown properly over them might catch some bait.
