    Old Faithful

There is no need for us to travel to Wyoming to witness the eruption of Old Faithful. We experienced it right in our own kitchen.

Mrs.Tyme started yelling and screaming and I ran as fast as I could to discover her distress. The hot water handle on our kitchen sink faucet had blown off and Old Faithful was spewing forth up to the kitchen ceiling. I made a mad dash to the basement to turn off the water.

Hanging on by a thread is a saying y'all might have heard. The brass fitting that holds the stem and handle to the faucet had been hanging on by two threads and they finally let loose.

I shut down the hot water to the sink and I guess I'll have to finally purchase a whole new fixture for the kitchen sink. The threads are stripped and cannot be repaired.

The bright side is that the kitchen window and curtains got a thorough washing.

Here's the new faucet I'll be installing.

Mrs.Tyme cleaned out the kitchen sink cabinet and I finally got a good look at what I'm up against.
Surprisingly, it didn't look too bad. I didn't quite know what to expect but I'm pleasantly surprised and am quite confidant now that I can do this. Just praying that the water connections won't be too stubborn.

New faucet has been installed. It's a good thing I ordered some extra parts. We (neighbor) had to cut the supply lines as the faucet would not sit down on the sink properly. It's pretty darn difficult to "compress" a copper pipe.

We (neighbor) cut the pipe once then we discovered the shark fitting wouldn't fit. The pipe transitioned form 1/2" to 3/8" and we needed to cut back to the 1/2" pipe. We (neighbor) attached the sharkbite fittings and 12" braided supply lines to the pipes and then the fixture.

All is well and water is again flowing into the sink.
As you can see from the photos the sink should be replaced sometime in the future (maybe another 15 years).
Thank you, neighbor for your hard work.

I did mine a few years ago in the bathrooms and the kitchen is next. I replaced the garbage disposal back a few years ago as well.

I really want a deeper sink in the kitchen so I'll prolly get a new counter top and while I'm at it a new stove since it's from the 1980's. Of course the back splash above the counter top will have to be redone to match the new counter top plus the kitchen will need to be repainted and if it doesn't match the dishwasher I may need to replace that! You know the cabinets looked dated as well.....Now I realize why I haven't changed anything!!! To dang expensive!!!

Don, you just reminded me of an old joke.

Why does the bride traditionally wear white?

The dishwasher should match the stove and the fridge!!

Why are women's feet shorter than men's?

..so they can stand closer to the sink.
