Livewell pump priming

I re-plumbed my livewell in my Lund 16' 6" Pike Rebel Special recently and now, for some reason, I have to back-flush from the livewell with a squeeze bottle to get the pump to pump water into the well. I'm no plumber, obviously, but wondered if anyone has a solution or answer as to why this is? The only thing I changed was to put one of those screen domes over the intake on the back of the boat, as well as put in a new SeaSense livewell pump. I did put in new hose too, but routed it the same way, and it was the same diameter.

You may have a hole or loose connection so it is drawing air until you back flush
