want to see what free enterprise does to tge american way of traveling? Norcross Ga. to louisville ky, no amtrac service, flying? 450.00 bucks one way. greyhound 69.00 travel time 16 hrs. One way car rental, almost 200.00. there used to several intra state bus companys, not anymore. I had a friend who went to europe 2 years ago. They said you could go almost anywhere on surface transport. Driving time from glasgow to norcross, about 6 hours, unless you run into construction[try avoiding it] I remember when I drove a taxi part time, there were two bus terminals in almost every city. So you decide to fly. 2 hours check in.Arm and leg for short term parking. You get there, no transportation. This does not compute.

Well I just tend to stay close to home these days. I use to travel a lot for work and hated it. I'm a home body I guess. Although I don't mind driving across the Eastern Parts of the USA. Or should I say I didn't mind it when I was younger.

I've not flown on an commercial airplane since before 2001 when all the new security restrictions were put into place. Flying is OK if you can afford to rent a vehicle when you land. Being without a vehicle is something I hate. I was without a car when I was in College for the first couple of years. I hated not having my wheels even though I could walk any where on campus. But getting off campus for a few hours is great therapy.

When I was traveling I ended up in Chicago or Washington DC without a vehicle a couple of times. Once for three days in Chicago and once for a few hours in Washington D.C. In Washington I had a few hours to kill before my flight back home and I spend that in the Aerospace Museum which was pretty cool. I was working for the government back in those day and the budget was tight. But when I went to work for private industry I have a larger travel budget and was able to rent a car when I landed in TX for a week. And I dove to Alabama in the Company car and was able to take the wife along for the entire week. That was good. I hated traveling solo and without wheels upon arrival.

Same here, when I travel for business I rent a car, even if I'm only there for a few days. Well I guess Chicago was the exception but it was ok. The company has a big dinner one night as part of the package and provided transportation and several of the guys had cars so we could get around pretty easy. We only went into the city of Chicago once (actually stay outside of the city when we go for business) and that was enough for me because the traffic to get there was horrendous!!

I enjoyed traveling in Germany via public transportation or with my own car. We traveled a lot while I was stationed there. I really would like to go to Europe for a few weeks and travel to several countries again.
