    Cave Run this Fall?

Any thoughts on the strategy for the Muskies this fall with the stunted weed growth?

Should I stay on the main flats and other areas where I know weeds were in the past and just fish over the emergent growth? (Provided there is emergent growth)

Or.......... concentrate on lay downs and timber like the old days?

    Thanks

I heard that there weren't any weeds on Cave Run this year. I was thinking about staying there again this fall, but now I'm thinking that my strategy may be to go somewhere else.

We stayed there about 4 years ago and there weren't any weeds that year and we caught several trolling.
    Good luck!!

    For what it's worth,
I was there the first week of June and was amazed to see the Flats were a big, underwater desert. No weeds.
I fished the new fish attractors that KDFW had placed around the main lake area and caught one 36" trolling a deep crank around the brush piles near the dam.
I hadn't fished the cave when weeds were absent, so I was a bit lost. I roamed the open water looking for bait balls and found a few, and around those I saw a few big marks on the sonar. I fished them with open water tactics, jigging, plastics, and even a big topwater but had no luck. I also trolled and caught several nice open water largemouth on musky cranks, 4-5 lbs each, but no ski's.

I'll bet it's kinda weird for the muskies too.

Was at the Cave a couple of weeks ago. Trolled mostly around the flats because my partner had hooked a nice one a couple of days earlier. We didn't do much (bluebird skies) . We'd pick up a small weed ever now and then if water depth got below 8 ft.

I expect the weeds to come on in the next few weeks with all the dry sunny weather lately, but it probably won't be enough to draw them in to their normal fall haunts.

This weekend is looking pretty musky-ish, but the water temp will probably still be a little too warm yet.
