If a person steps out in front of you, you may not have enough time to stop.

    Another problem!

Cell phones! I'm willing to bet that a huge increase in accidents include cell phones being used while driving. Once your attention is off the road everything changes. You can hit cars, kids, joggers, bicyclists, motorcycles, trees and on and on....If there was a need for a law with some teeth in it then this is it. Cell phones should be hands free only and if you're caught not doing so then it's a ticket worse that seatbelt violations. Texting, emailing, facebooking or whatever while driving should be an even stronger penalty. I guess it will take a Senator or prominent member of society to be killed or a family member killed from someone being distracted by a cell phone before any real action is taken.

How many of you sit behind people at stop signs or traffic lights and have to give them a beep beep to get moving? ever watched a car swerving from people of cell phones? Ever see a car with a glow at night from someone cruising by looking down at a lit up cell phone?

Having a teenage driver in the house has really made me aware of this. It scares the crap out of me that she or others she is with will cause or be in an accident from improper cell phone usage.

Psychological research has shown that when drivers use cell phones, whether hand-held or hands-off, their attention to the road drops and driving skills become even worse than if they had too much to drink. I was traveling I-65 north of Bowling Green yesterday and someone in a pickup was swerving like they were drinking. I knew I didn't want to be behind that person for very long so at first opportunity I got in the left lane and sped up so I could overtake them as quickly as possible. When I got beside of the vehicle I glared over at the driver and sure enough I could see the cheetah thumbs texting on the phone.
