The freight company is just a third party they contracted with and you really don't know what the agreement is between them and Home Depot. If it were me next time don't waste your time and energy arguing with a 3rd party and instead talk to who you bought from. They have the incentive to keep you satisfied and may have simply absorbed the charge themselves after hearing your side.
I didn't buy from Home depot, they had the item I needed 40.00 cheaper than what I bought it for on line, but the on line company had free shipping and home depot was a 3 hour round trip for me plus gas, so the on line deal was the best, I bought it from Bathware house.
