You know, I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong...and I'll be the first to admit that reading about some things this week made me realize that I did not know the extent of how immigrant refugees are vetted before coming into this country. They are actually vetted pretty hard, by multiple agencies, before they ever step foot into the US. I automatically assumed our government was inept on it, but they aren't necessarily. It's a process that takes at least a year and a half. Syrians pose additional challenges, but it's not like we're just letting in people where we don't have the foggiest idea who they are. Foolproof? No. But it's not an open floodgate either.
I still think the 5% of radicalized Muslims need to be eradicated. I still think proactive military action from a coalition of countries is the way to do it. I still think that is critical. I still think the other 95% of Muslims should stand up and help.
But, I've softened a bit on the absolutely no refugees stance...as long as it's done legally and they are vetted. Seems like it would be much easier and faster for someone to get into the US illegally anyway...through a porous southern border, for instance. I'm sure they already have.
