Green River Lake and Cave Run

Why is it that I can't find any Musky fishing reports from Green River or Cave Run Lake ?

I cant speak for Cave Run but there are no guides on Green, and guides are who typically give weekly reports. Most of the guys i know that musky fish here on green keep their info to themselves. Being a bass fisherman ive never understood why musky fishing was so tough, we jave a run in with one every few trips whike trying not to. Just from bass fishing there are a few areas where i feel i could take a spinnerbait nearly any time and run into one. When in doubt go to the back of a creek/pocket and cast. If that doesnt work go to the next one

I cant find anyone that willing to talk with about Musky on GRL. I guess mum is the word.

I think me and a buddy are going to try for some musky next weekend at green. He's always wanted to catch one.

Im convinced that if you get around them it doesnt matter what youre throwing, theyre gonna eat it. Go in Russell Branch, Big Wilson, or parts of Robinson and you cant bass fish because of the musky. You can throw those big musky baits and probably get bigger bites but you can throw a 1/2oz white/chart spinnerbait and catch em

I've only caught one Muskie on Green ... a 12lb Tiger Muskie, on a 1/16oz Roadrunner & 4lb test line, while Crappie fishing. LOL

I've caught several on Cave Run ... trolling cranks for them, & casting jerkbaits for Bass.

All of which were caught in the distant past. The Green River Lake Tiger is on the wall, and all the Cave Run fish were released (too small to keep) except one ... which was eaten. Like I said ... this was decades ago, when I was young & dumb. LOL !!

I, too, have often heard Bass anglers complain about not being able to fish a chartreuse spinnerbait for Bass (esp at Cave Run), for all the Muskies chomping down on them ... LOL !! Must be something about chartreuse they don't like, or maybe REALLY LIKE, because the jerkbait I caught mine on was a 5" Rebel Minnow with chartreuse back/silver sides.

This is one caught a few years ago on Cave Run. We were bass fishing and my buddy caught this on a 4 inch rubber lizard. It broke our bass net off at the handle. But he had a great fight.
So much for those giant muskie baits.

We went back in branch a couple years ago and had one swipe at a spinner right at the boat. Buddy didn't get a good hookset on it but it was probably close to 40" hopefully I can get him one this time.

There are a couple of guides on Green River Lake, but they fly under the radar for the most part. I don't guide personally, but 95% of my fishing is for muskies at GRL. With the lake being pulled right now, the fish are in a funk. They will be on random patterns for the most part. The key to it is finding the shad schools.
