Carolina Rig

Every year I pick one type of fishing rig that I want to work at improving my skills on. Last year was spinnerbaits (I did quite well with them) and the year before was wacky worms. This year I have decided to make a major effort to improve my Carolina rig fishing skills. If anyone has any Carolina rig fishing tips and techniques that they would like to share with me and board I would appreciate them all.

If you decide to go all out and use brass weights and glass beads, make sure you buy quality stuff. The cheap stuff has sharp edges and will shred your line before you know it.

No CR expert by any means, but one thing I learned quickly was not to make a cast longer than I could get a good hook set.

I know there are variables but on a GRL flat around 6-8 feet deep what size weight would you recommend starting with?

I typically throw 1/2 but a lotbof people go up to 3/4

My hook-ups improved when I stopped trying to set the hook back over my head like Texas rigs. Point rod tip down to the fish then sweep the rod parallel to the water.

This is the best tip out there.

On that note, go all out and use brass and glass. One weekend I fished the cheap stuff and my partner fished brass and glass. Same water, same bait and he outfished me 2-1.

7.5 foot rod and 50lb braid with a 12lb mono leader 18" long.Brass and glass is the only way to go. 1/2oz 10'or less3/4oz 10' and deeper but that's just me.Also like a floating worm like a trick worm.
