Guys this is horrible almost every Marina on Cumberland is reporting some sort of damage and Grider is every bit as bad as Jamestown. These Marina roofs are not designed to carry that kind of snow load. The trusses are but the structure, spacing of trusses, purlins and base are not. There is literally Millions of dollars of damage on the lake and surrounding areas.
thanks mark, minor damage to the house, some damage to the deck and hot tub, brushed the wifes vehicle but nothing serious. my issue will be a very big clean up job
i have friends and family in the area that havent fared as well unfortunately as their damage was worse than mine.
and i cant even imagine the difficulties these dock owners, boat owners, dock workers etc etc are facing. this has been a brutal storm

Just saw a picture posted online, showing some Dale Hollow marina guys on a double deck pontoon boat ... going around the dock and scraping the snow off the roofs !! Not sure which marina, but kudos to them for "thinking ahead" and nipping any possibility of roof collapse ... in the bud !!

Same thing happened last year. Ice and snow in Feb. Probably not anticipated back when the docs were built.

Here is a good summary of some of the damage from a guide Jared Harmon down there that gives us reports.

I have no conformation but it would appear as if there is boats that would be sunk behind Holmes Bend Marina.

Here is another Holmes Bend shot. There is light damage to the dock in the bottom right corner. You can also see the main collapse in behind the marina in the foreground of the picture.

Awful just plain awful to see. It was hard watching that boat sink. Did the people down around that area get ice as well or was it just alot of snow? We got about 8-10 inches of snow here in bardstown. Hope everyone is safe

    ice

We got rain/freezing rain for 3 hours before the snow started, trees and limbs were cracking and crashing well before the first snowflake arrived. Then on top of massive amounts of ice on everything we got 18 inches of snow locally with more or less depending on what area you are in, this is not counting the drifts, some drifts are pretty deep

Yes really sad, I guess the positive side is no one was hurt or worse. Hopefully some of the local businesses can prosper from this mess. Jeff wishing you and your family all the best man, hang in there.Chuck

thanks for the best wishes chuck. my upside is there will be an enormous pile of firewood, i will donate it to somebody locally who needs it.
on another note i have witnessed the complete emotional devastation of some of the folks who have watched what they worked and saved for all those years just slowly go down the drain.
ive heard demolition crews will begin work at some of the marinas in the next few days...i am curious to see how many boats they are able to save during this process. it looks dangerous as hell to me.
