The one policeman was breathing hard. He was a rather large man and seemed to be out of shape. He was the one that stayed behind and was holding what looked like a taser gun. The other policeman was the one who ran after the suspect in the film.
Police like firemen and military people need to stay in good shape in order to do their job better and to say safer.
Now I see why they pull out their guns and order suspects to lay face down on the ground with their hands stretched out to their sides. This makes it harder for the suspects to grab a gun or knife.
A knife at close range can be very dangerous as well as the gun. A man can run the 40 yard dash in under 6 seconds. Some can run it faster, some slower. But if a guy with a knife is charging at the police at full speed the police don't have a lot of time to defend themselves. They need to keep in shape and practice self defense moves and quick draw all the time and stay proficient at their shooting skills.
Pushing away from the donuts and hitting the guy might help save a life. As well as prevent some big fat guy from dropping dead from a heart attack.
