Interesting read here if you are into military and political national confrontations at sea.
Could this be the beginning of a war with China both militarily and economically?
What would you do if you were the President of the USA and found out that China was putting jet fighters and surface to air/surface missile on these newly built islands in the South China Sea. Huge amounts of trade flows though these disputed waters and the Chinese intend to control this area with military might.
Mean while the USS Air Craft Carrier and it's escorts are sailing in the South China Sea. Who will blink first or who will fire fire.
These islands are man mad and under normal conditions they are mere reefs or shoals that used to be under water at high tide in this area. The Chinese have been dredging sand and building up these small reefs and making island there. Then they build a concrete runway on the islands and now have put Chinese Fighter Jets on these runways along with missile.
IMHO the Chinese are trying to squeeze the USA out of this area. This could be very dangerous for both sides really soon or it could blow over. But someone is going to back down and I hope it's the Chinese. But I don't think that they are thinking that way. No the Chinese have shown in the past that they are not going to back down from the USA. They have been building missiles that can knock out our GPS satellites from space and they are copying our latest fighter jet technology (F35) and are building new Aircraft Carries and modernizing their submarine fleet.
The world is getting smaller and more dangerous every day. It's not just the increase in Russian submarine activity in the North Atlantic and the Med but the Chinese are not getting more active in the Oceans.
