    how can this be ri......

How can this law be right or fair, some laws just don't make sense, like if you plan to take a weeks vacation and go to a southern state crappie fishing, you buy gas, and book a room there to stay a week, you spend money after you get there on food, and anything that you like, you buy the out of state license [ fair enough ] and that gives you the right to fish there, and you have a daily creel limit, lets say 30 crappie a day, [ fair enough ] now here is the part I can't see as being a fair law, you can catch 30 fish a day, you can throw them up on the bank and let them die and go to waste, or you can give them to another person that never even bought a fishing license, or you can feed them to stray cats, you can take them and throw them in the garbage, but you can't clean over 30 of them and store them for your family to eat at a later date.

your lisense say you can fish every day if you like, and you can catch 30 fish limit per day, yet you can only bring 30 crappie back home with you. why would it say 30 per day, why not just say it like it is, and say you are allowed a total of 30 fish period.

I would try to fry up all the crappie I caught each day and have a big fish fry for all those at the camp I'm staying at. Do that every day. Then in the last part of the week make sure you have 30 fish fillets to take home. Heck by that time you should be tired of eating crappie and still have some fillets for dinner at some time in the future.

Possession limits are there to protect the resource. Here in IN we have wanton waste regulations that prevent anyone from catching fish and throwing them up on the bank to die.

IMHO, I believe the possession limits are in place to keep someone , or a group of folks from going to lake X in state Y, and overharvesting crappie or bluegill or walleye, or whatever.

Yea, the limit is 30 or whatever. If you stayed a week on lake X, that is 210 crappie fish or 420 fillets...........multiply that by 4 folks.....that is 1680 fish fillets.

Now, lets put this in a little more perspective.....Lets just take your 420 fillets. That is 10 meals of fish if you cook 40 fillets for each meal. In reality you're probably cooking more like 20 fillets for each meal so that is 20 meals. If you only cook 10 fillets for each meal, that is 40 meals or nearly 1 a week.

Take as many as you want, clean as many as you want, EAT as many as you want, but be sure you don't waste the resource.

And for the record, I do believe the law are meant to allow for ample personal use, but the laws are not meant for groups to head to a lake and over harvest, and then give a ton of fish to friends and family and neighbors, etc, etc, etc.

    Must my 2 cents......

    Geo.

i've had 3 replys, and all 3 told me what the possession limit was in place for, sorry guys but I already new what it was for, but it still don't make sense,

you buy your lisense to fish any lake you like, you are allowed 30 fish per day.
and if you have 3 friends with you fishing, that is 3 more sets of fishing lisense, each person same as you, are allowed 30 fish per day.

if your lisense say your daily creel is 30 fish, that is all you should keep in a 24 hour period. now if you fish another day your lisense say you are allowed 30 fish that day. they are your fish you bought your fishing lisense, you can do anything you want with those 60 fish, and be legally within the law, but if you take them home to use for your family food, you have broken the law.

what I'm saying is the law don't make sense, instead of saying 30 fish creel per day, why don't they just say 30 fish limit period. it would make more sense.

Actually the law is pretty clear on the possession limits.......They are there to limit just what you're talking about.

What is to keep you from catching a limit on one lake, taking those fish to camp and then going back out and catching another limit?

Your word? Sorry, there are way too many folks that just want to pound their chest and say the wore them out.........harvesting every single fish they are legally authorized to take.

Again, it is your right, but take what you need and be done with it. Hundreds of fillets in the freezer is overkill, but again, do what you want , especially if LEGAL.

    Indiana and possession limits

In the state of Indiana, they do not consider fish at your primary residence as part of your possession limit.

Most other states do.. This basically means that you can go on multiple fishing trips ,, catch your legal limits, and freeze and keep whatever you want.

now that I like, make sense, sounds like your allowed a creel limit each time you go fishing, you buy your lisense, you should be able to keep your daily creel limit if you want.
