When push comes to shove the US Military will win the day. It's always been that way. The US Plane was an unarmed recon plane. While the Russian plane was a much smaller jet fighter that was most likely armed with a cannon and possibly air to air missiles.

The Baltic Sea does not belong to Russian and the Russian pilot was show boating and we will continue to fly over the Baltic Sea as we please. He didn't make the USA stop flying off the coast of Russia in international waters just as the Russian's fly bear bombers off the coast of NATO members including the USA. We too send fighter jets to intercept and escort the Russian Bears out of our areas of interest.

We don't own the international waters off our coast just as Russian does NOT own those same type of waters off their coast line.

The same applies to China which we continue to fly and sail though the area of the South China Sea (international waters) that is claimed by the Chinese. But no one else recognized the Chinese claim to those man made artificial islands in the Southern Parts of the South China Sea. Other countries claim some of those island too. Vietnam and the Philipines all claim some or parts of those reefs.
