Man, this weekend was a little tough, but we still managed a limit or close to a limit of bass everyday.
Thursday - 04/21. Man, it rained like hades. We went to South Barkley, and fished a few leadin banks, and a few go to spots. We managed to catch a few fish with a bag of 5 keepers, but nothing GREAT. Most fish were on Soft Plastics or Jigs. Again, nothing GREAT, and certainly nothing to write home about.
Friday - Colder than expected....We went to North Barkley, fishing main lake cuts, and some shallow water for most of the day......WE caught a few fish on shakey heads, lizards, tubes, and some jigs. NO crankbait bite or red eye shad bite. WE fished till mid day, and then pulled off, and went to the Cabin for Baits, and then went back out, putting in at Smith Bay. In smith, we managed to find a few more on Jigs and lizards........Another Limit of fish, but not by much.
Saturday - Saturday, we started in Sugar Bay, got the skunk out of the boat with a couple at the top of Sugar, and then decided to run to Higgins. In higgins, we found a few fish schooled up on a single bank, and managed to boat 10 or so, with 3-4 keepers. After Higgins, we headed to a few shallow cuts off the main lake on the LBL side, and managed to catch a few more keepers, eventually ending up with a limit or so , with the top 5 being about 12 lbs or so.......Solid 2.5 lb fish but nothing to write home about........nothing over 3 . Again, All fish were on lizards, texas rig, shakey head or jigs.
No crankbaits, no red eye shad.......
Sunday - Sunday we headed back South on Barkley, and fished down an entire bank that has consistently produced SOLID Fish in the past.........Nothing, nada, not a single fish, not a single bite......We want to the other side, and fished until we reached a no nothing, do nothing point and caught 14lbs of fish off it, with a 5.1 kicker. Again Jigs, lizards, shakey head, and texas rig.
I will tell you this.......I seriously think next week will be on FIRE, and that shallow , flipping bite will be off the hook.
It is about to get started, and there were about 8 million folks doing that all over the lake this weekend. We also flipped, but every area we caught fish, most of them were much deeper than the buck brush that everyone is flipping too.
All the fish we caught on Barkley North and South were all bloodied up...........It is about to get real crazy, real soon.![]()
.
Too bad, this is my last trip this spring........boo.
Later,
Geo.
