I went down to the falls yesterday by the museum & the water was super rough & high so I didn't waste my time & tackle . I have a lot of learning to do converting over to the river from pay lakes lol but thanks bud
Blues are active year round.
Fresh cut skipjacks or cut chad.
Not familiar with that area but you put that bait in an area where the blues are hanging around and you will get bit.
What I would do being new to the falls is start a log. You can call 775-5056 and get a reading every 4 hours and a new forecast at 2:00pm for the next 3 days. Get to know the water levels and use different structure to associate it to. When you catch fish, log the date, water level, and conditions. Just Rember it changes everyday and the fishing does to.Its truly a special area and can be very dangerous to. Good luck, Chuck
Couple of questions
I heard that skip jack run in the spring time so will I be able to catch them around this time of the year ?
I called that number & the upper is 15ft over and the lower is 33ft over . Where do yall catch majority of fish upper or lower ?
I'm soaking in all the advice that yall throw out lol
Im not saying you can't catch skips now but your best bet this time of year is a warm water discharge. The water now is way to muddy for a consistent bite. As far as the upper and lower goes, the upper is above the dams, the lower below the dams. When the water rises faster than the dam(all out) can disperse the upper gauge starts to rise. Usually anything over13 at the upper and the dams will be all out. As far as the best place goes it changes with every water depth change. Been fishin her for over 40 years and still trying to figure them out. Hope this helps. ChuckCouple of questions

So when you say warm water discharge are you talking about bodies of water that flows off of the river like creeks ? It's good to know that there's people still out here to guide inexperienced fisher man in the right direction so thanks
Most warm water discharges are electric plants all along the river. The two we have close to the Lou. Area are Gallagher on the Ind. side and LG&E on the Ky side down by the casino boat. You can hit warm water discharges on the search engine and get lots a good info. And no problem helpin out a fellow fisherman, especially one that wants to get away from fishing in a barrel i.e..pay lakes. The river Is an amazing place and the fossil beds are one of a kind. All it will take is one good day on the river and you will forget all about chicken breast soaked in koolaid and w-d lol. I'll answer as many questions as I can. Chuck
Chuck is a great guy to learn from, never personally met him but he always has good info on the falls, have learned a lot from his post, haven't fished the river much in the past year or so, did make it out 1 time this year, did fair, great place to fish, has to be one of my favorites, don't just catfish, there are so many types of fish to catch there, if one type isn't bitting, something is, good luck and welcome to the falls.

Yes sir, thank you for the kind words. This has been a spawning ground for all fish that swim the river for centuries. Definitely one of the states best overlooked fishery's.Chuck is a great guy to learn from, never personally met him but he always has good info on the falls, have learned a lot from his post, haven't fished the river much in the past year or so, did make it out 1 time this year, did fair, great place to fish, has to be one of my favorites, don't just catfish, there are so many types of fish to catch there, if one type isn't bitting, something is, good luck and welcome to the falls.
