I'm sure that others have said this also, but I never heard it before I started using it. "That's why it's called fishing instead of catching". I say that to myself all too often.
"You should have been here ..... " (as it's usually more true than not)
"You ain't holding your mouth right"
"Nothing makes a fish bigger than almost being caught"
"GET THE NET !!! "

My absolute all-time favorite. You can spend quite a while pondering this one and it's full meaning:
"Many go fishing all their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after."

I like this one as well. Also "everyone must believe in something. I believe I'll go fishing" not sure who said it.
I find it ironic that I tell the kids the same thing that my father told me. Don't horse him in! I took my younger cousin fishing with me up at Patoka years ago. He hooked into a nice 3 or 4 lb lm bass and was trying to reel him in fast and I yelled at him, Don't Horse him in"! He lost the fish and never forgot that I said to him. He was really dejected at losing that bass.
Ironic that in todays leading Bass Tournaments that practically jerk them into the boat and you see the bass flying though the air these days. My how times have changed. And yet back in those days we used braided line too. All these young kids think that braided line is something new? Heck when I started bass fishing all the line was braided and we had not seen any monofilament line yet. CA 1958.
Let the fish load the rod.

"Somebody just back of you while you are fishing is as bad as someone looking over your shoulder while you write a letter to your girl."
Ernest Hemingway
"Last cast of the day..." repeated about 15 times of course.
That one has earned my dad the nickame, "Last Cast Larry"!!!
