This thread is a wealth of knowledge. So I am going to throw a curveball.
Any recommendations for my 7 year old? He’s over 4ft tall and with how he’s growing I wouldn’t want to be tying too much $$$ in it. My concern is I don’t want to get something that’s too much boat for him.

I got my son and daughter a Future Beach Mariner 10.4 Angler at Dunham’s. Not sure if they still make the same model because brands are always updating but I watched for Dunham’s to run a sale and these I think were normally about $350 and I got them for $199. They had built in rod holders, front and rear hatches, battle holder, bungees, adjustable foot braces, and about a 300lb capacity. They have been great for the price and perfect for them. My son has since grown taller than me and still uses it with no problems, even got my wife same model but not the angler version for $189 and she loves it. Sturdy little kayaks that are perfect for children at just shy of 10’4” but still large enough for an adult. This thread is a wealth of knowledge. So I am going to throw a curveball.

So if you keep checking Dunham’s web site they run a lot of sales but ever now and then you can really find a bargain like that one. And I would recommend the Future Beach kayak as a great value for a “cheaper” choice if you’re not sure about investing too much into one.
I agree with Dunhams. They have a lot of stuff in store that isn't online, as well. You can get 20% off if it isn't a Perception. I'm really new to it, but I wouldn't get anything over 10' for him. Tracking would be the most important because he would likely get upset if he couldn't keep up. I also wouldn't worry much about comfortability because when you are young you are invincible. Haha
