The only people wearing respirators are the people in the hospital and asbestos workers. But you are right. I purchased a full-face HEPA respirator ($100) to wear when spraying pesticides for mosquito control. My asbestos half-face respirator had a torn disk on the exhaust valve. I've thought about wearing a respirator to the grocery store but don't want to freak other people out. The last time I was working at ALCOA for Sterling Boilers I dressed in a respirator and full TYVEK suit, gloves, and boots and caused quite a stir with the other nearby workers. We were taking a machine apart and had to test the insulation on the machine for asbestos. Asbestos inspectors dress this way to protect themselves from getting contaminated by asbestos fiber. Actually, there was no asbestos in this particular machine other than some gasket material that had non-friable asbestos in them. But you never know what you may run into when doing testing and removal.

When I go to the grocery store I go during the very early morning when the store opens only for older people (> 60 yoa) They have these early hours for the most vulnerable people two days a week so that we can shop without being exposed to super spreader young people. I use to go there early in the morning when they first open so that I could pick up my prescriptions but the store got bought out by CVS and CVS did away with the early morning pharmacy hours. So now I have my medicines mailed to the house. They don't have a drive-through at the grocery store. But CVS has another store without 1/2 mile of the grocery store and it's on my way to the grocery store. They have a drive though and I'm thinking about changing my pharmacy so that I can use the drive-through. Speaking of medicines, I need to call my insurance agent and talk to her about which insurance to buy this year.
