Studies show that masks reduce the fluids that carry virus particles and wearing a mask helps stop about 90% of the virus particles that are sprayed out of the mouth when we talk.

Usually I don’t unless mandatory. I just don’t feel safe with a wet steamy virus hotbed strapped to my face. Yes, if you exhale, that cloth mask goes from useless face covering to virus hotspot pretty dam quick. If that doesn’t trigger common sense mechanism for you, well wear a mask. Aerosols are very small in the submicron size and stay airborne in still air for hours. But they carry a much smaller amount of virus particles. It's about infections and you need to take in a large enough virus load to overwhelm the body's defense before you can become infected. It's about probabilities in a way.

Larger particles don't float in the air very long and they fall down to the ground due to gravity. And if you wear a mask the larger droplets are prevented from passing through the mask material. Only a small fraction of the droplets or aerosols pass through the mask with enough force to go very far.
Without a mask on a cough can spew droplets and aerosols much further away than if the person is wearing a mask. That is why you must also practice social distancing while wearing a mask to reduce the risk of spreading the virus to others. That is why EVERY ONE Must wear a mask when inside with others where you can't social distance. Ventilation of the room also comes into play but that will be way over your head when we start talking about room air exchange rates of the ventilation system and the filter pore sizes of the ventilation filter system.

When we wear a multilayered cloth mask it's not to protect ourselves. No, it's to protect others. You seem to be focused on yourself. Typical of a Trump supporter. We are told to wear masks in order to protect others from our emission just in case we are infected and don't know it. Most infections these days are caused by asymptomatic super spreaders that fail to wear a mask. The person who wears a mask is not wearing the mask to protect themselves unless they are using an N95 mask which filters out 95% of particles down to 0.3 microns in size. We save those types of masks for the hospital workers. We should have forced the US companies to manufacture N95 type masks here in the USA so we would have enough of them for everyone to wear and replace often. But Trump didn't make that decision so we are forced to make do with paper masks and cloth masks instead. They only slow the spread to others if we keep a distance. You have to do all the protocols to stay safe. So mask work when they are worn properly and we keep a safe distance of at least 6 ft away from others and then wash our hands with soap and water for 20 seconds. The best masks we can use short of N95 are cotton material with a high thread count and triple layers. They slow the spread better than a simple cloth material with a low thread count. But even the latter is better than not wearing anything.

One thing to remember is that Trump could have authorized the War Powers Act and forced American Companies to make more N95 masks and then made masks mandatory for all of the USA. That would have helped slow the spread of the virus and saved thousands of lives. But he made fun of people that wore masks instead and now we have over 1/4 million dead. You don’t know jack **** about respirators! That is why you said in earlier post that people were having to go on respirators at alarming rate. Your bait and switch not going to work with me, I’ve worked in respirators 25% of my life. I know how they work and on occasions if one had failed me, I wouldn’t have to quarantine for 14 days or worry about a hospital bed.

I have also shared that my daughter is a RN,sister RN, and niece a very soon to be RN. You can bulls hit about politics kid but you better wake up and look around. Cloth masks don’t work!

President Trump was also one of the first to come out about face coverings, he actually said a scarf would be better than nothing. 92% is roughly about 75% above what i see here in southern Kentucky. folks just don't wear them around here. I went to a convenience store today and I was the only person in the store wearing a mask , including the store employees who had a mask around their chin.

Go back and read them before you keep embarrassing yourself by showing your ignorance. I never said that it stopped all the virus particles. But a mask can stop 95% of the particles of 0.3 micron and larger. And a mask can slow the velocity of the droplets coming out of the mouth when one coughs or talks. That helps slow the spread when we wear a mask and stay 6 ft apart. And if an infected person does not wear a mask and coughs the droplets carrying large amounts of virus particles can go much further and infect may others around the infected person that coughs. Now if the same infected person wears a good mask then the number of virus particles is reduced considerably and the distance they travel is reduced thus protecting others around the person who coughed.

Mask mandates do not cause positive cases to explode. . That is a ridiculous statement that is false. WEARING A MASK REDUCED THE SPREAD! Cloth masks made out of cotton that is tight weave and multilayers are good for stopping the virus from getting away when one coughs while wearing said mask. A good multilayers high thread count cotton mask reduced the spread of the virus when people talk or cough and reduced the distance that those particles that pass through the mask travel. Less virus gets out when we wear a mask than if we don't wear a mask. That is just easy to see and comprehend. Anyone that can't see that is not being truthful. Now if you are talking about a thin cloth mask made out of polyester with a low thread count then more virus particles may pass through that material.
