Anyone catching crappie at Taylorsville?
I'm getting reports from a few that are catching a few keepers ... late afternoon into the night, Spider Rigging minnows in ~15fow & catching at ~9ft deep. However, that was before the rains & the lake rising. That's all I know. I opted to go to Green last week, instead of Taylorsville, due to the lack of any good reports & my "less than stellar" catches from prior trips.
FWIW .... Green's Crappie were in the 20-25ft depths, around brush & in small pods in open water. They did not want our jigs, so we opted for minnows. They didn't care about size or condition, as long as it was a minnow & within 1ft of them. In fact, I think I caught as many on dead minnows as I did on live ones, maybe more.
Any size to those crappie? Last time I was there I had around 70 crappie with only 2 keepers.
I was referring to Chuck Adams report on the Crappie website (you've already read it). But, yeah .... keepers are hard to come by shortly after the spawn at Taylorsville. Last few times I've been there, the dink to keeper ratio was similar to yours. That's why I opted to drive the extra 30mins and go to Green.
I was referring to your trip to Green.
Ooops .... LOL !!
Most of the 20 we had were just over the 9" minimum length ... I think we had maybe 4 or 5 that were close to 11", but we didn't bother to measure those we knew were obviously keepers.
Our 2nd day (16 keepers caught), we never got out of sight of the marina. (day #1 we barely got out of sight of it .... LOL !! )
Day #1 was a half day venture (noonish - 5pm) and my partner spent way too much time trying to force feed them jigs.
I can't even begin to say how many 8.75" fish we caught & released. Bodes well for next year's crop of keeper fish.
