Dems had a no-win situation. Biden was the right person to defeat Trump, but the wrong person to try to form some sort of cohesive coalition among the various party factions. Same with VP - right person to guarantee an election victory, wrong person to be first in line of succession.
Both the Dems and the GOP are in remarkably similar situations. As the wingnut factions of their parties get loonier and loonier, how do you hold on to the votes in the center?
