Trump actually had a pretty good opportunity to do it. But Like Perot, I believe he realized teh only way he would become president WAS to run as a SHT BAG politician.
The Absolutely best thing that could have happened the last time, OR this time...........
1). Trump lose the nomination, say eff it all, and RUN as a TRUMPLICAN, or whatever the eff other party he wants to run as.
2). Target the extremely independent "streak" states......Many STATES are Trump States........Many.
3). Win those states as the Trumplican or whatever...........
4). Be SURE it is enough to ensure there is not a 270 majority of electors taken.
5). It goes to the House.
6). The "right" 17 states "win".............doubtful most people know how, but DEFINITELY possible.
As you know, or most of you "might" know. IF a runoff goes to the house, it is not every house member gets a vote.....Nope it goes to the ROOTS of our representative republic....the effing ROOTS........Each State gets 1 vote. Their statehouse , their senate and house of commons get together and cast 1 vote.
Pubs and Dems fight over battleground ******** states..........the Trumplican candidate picks up the states tired of the ****.
We have a 3rd party and a different method, for ever going forward.
Now I just woke up from my pipe dream. IT will never happen........Except it already has happened, when we were Truely STILL a constitutional republic.
