For starters, I fully agree some businesses have done miserable environmental things.

One of my thoughts: Companies can not manufacture any item that does not come with an approved method to recycle it either on the items packaging or instruction manual. If they make it they must have a method to handle it safely when it hits end of service life.?

Once again the same rationale as "if we ban guns the murders wont happen"

How about companies can only produce items in a pre-order fashion. There should be 3 MAYBE 4 types of cereal, they all have the same crap in them with different packaging. How about single use plastics for non-medical or food storage purposes cannot be made anymore?
How about it is illegal to not have a garden that is less than 70% of your lawn and two chickens on your property?

We havent gone tit for tat like you said, you just bootlicked companies that dont pay your salary, dont pay taxes and only pollute your surroundings for gains you will never see.

Which also means doing smart things like encourageing home builders to install solar when the house is first built. Like putiign solar panels on the roofs of EVERY governemtn building instread of taking a farnmers filed and growing glass panels. It means every pro foot ball stadium ought have solar all over their domes. It means every commercial airfiled ought have panels all over it instead of in the middle of a filed where we need to grow things, need to feed cows. It means putting windgenerators on top of buildings instead of taking up land where birds migrate to and from and killing birds with wind turbines., and yes, nuclear power palnats that are far more efficient and cleaner than all that crap put to gether. BALANCE, NOTY FANATIC ********!
When I did my remodel......which was about half of my original cost of my home, I installed all energy efficient LED lighting everywhere. Insulated where I could and put in smart plugs and switches.

Also zoned the up and downstairs. 50-60k of upgrades, and those upgrades are saving me money, significant money, but the pay off is prob 20 years.

I did it because I was doing it anyways, but the costs were significant.

I will also say the first energy efficient bulbs......those twisty bulbs filled with gas and mercury, were anything but efficient or safe. They were supposed to last 5-6 years, and cost 10-20x more than incandescent bulb. I was still replacing them every year. THEY SUCKED. LED is better.........but still not as good as incandescent bulbs for the ambient light they put off.

ON another note. I read a story about a guy who wanted to SUE GE over their LED bulbs, because he used one in his chicken coop to keep it warm and all his chickens died.. .

go back to paper and glass like we used to.
looks like the wizard here that knows everything would come up with biodegradable plastic.
I think many of us are for banning one time use plastics.

    BUT it can never happen......

Imagine this scenerio. You go to your favorite place for takeout. They charge 1 buck for the containers, or you BRING your own container, and your favorite place uses YOUR container.

Nope. Dept of AG, Health Dept, Dept of Environment affairs and about 18 others, have about 18 thousand rules about those non approved home containers.......cleaned in your dishwasher at 8 thousand degrees last night, oh and it's made of stainless or GLASS.

GET rid of all the ******** and let me bring my glass container to the effing restaurant, and take my **** home that I BUY from you.

    That is but one example.

In another, you could eliminate nearly all drink container waste, by charging a dollar extra per cup or bring your own.....

Those are pretty extreme ideas.........you can only produce 3 or 4 , government MANDATED items.

    Let market economies drive that.

I tend to agree with packaging though. I'd prefer we go to the cereal store and there is a paid person distributing cereal to YOUR container. It would prob cost more due to the person being paid, but you'd eliminate how much packaging waste? It's a simple idea........it's easy to implement, and not too costly........and would save millions of lbs a year of waste.

You could use that model in a lot of places, including most takeout places.

WE already kind of use that in some grocery stores, where you bring your own bag.......An example of byob is Trader Joes. Also, when my wife and I were in Hawaii, all Target stores have bring your own bag. IF you don't have one, they sell you a cloth one, but YOU have to pay for it. I still have those bags we got in Hawaii, and we use them regularly at our Local Target stores. It's cool when folks ask about the cool Target bag and we share the story.

Now, I don't use them all the time, but we do use them.

Your first two sentences I disagree with, while I know there should be some kind of competition to drive innovation, real innovation comes when solving a problem. I think we have cereal figured out.

Everything else I agree with. The shear waste we produce just in single use plastics would be reduced by these simple concepts.

Now the garden and chicken idea isnt so extreme and would create another large cut in waste both in packaging for foods but also food waste. Everything you dont eat, compost it for your garden or feed it to the chickens. Then you look at the amount we would reduce in pollution from transport of the food and goods and waste.

But like it goes, if it makes sense, it wont happen.

    Packaging

I put 100% of our packaged food containers in the recycling bin. Waiting in line to have a human fill my container is a no go, plus there the sanitary issue that makes it a for certain no go.

I'll stick with recyclable tamper resistant sealed food containers.

Fast food does produce zillions of tons of waste, much of which low-lifes throw out on the side of the road. Hard to imagine bringing your own containers to crackdonalds tho.

Be nice if there was a way to keep bank fishing spots from being used as trash receptacles. Seems every bank spot is loaded with discarded bait boxes, drink bottles, food bags, etc. Drives me nuts.

Its funny how you see the benefits but are to lazy to do the obviously good thing.

No wonder this world is going to ****. Even if its good for us no one will lift a finger other than to point out who they think is to blame.

But DevilHorse have you ever been to a buffet?

Should we recycle and reuse condoms too ? Or should they just be designed to be washable?

Why just 2 chicken? Let’s add a couple sheep, a dairy cow, 40x40 fish pond with catfish, and 2 pigs. Oh.. and 6 ducks so you can hunt and not waste gas leaving home.

    Those are medical.

Or give guys vasectomies free of charge. Eliminates a good amount of abortions, reduces waste from condoms and the can be reversed.

    Everyone hates condoms anyways
