This time of year the fish are deep. 25 to 28 feet deep. Most of the guides will drift fish with shiners. If you want to fish artificial then try jigging spoons, Jig and pig, or REALLY DEEP diving crankbaits. Active fish will hit baits over their heads at 15 to 20. You could also try those tail spinner baits made out of lead. Those seem to work well on occasion, but guides depend on shiners this time of year.

thanks and
I willlet you know how we did.
I did really well this time last year on the grassy flats using spinnerbaits and spooks. cold and overcast weather produced the best results. I was there for 2 days with probably 6 over 4 pounds and 2 that were right at 6 pounds.
What color spooks were you using? Thanks!
I've found out years ago from Billy Westmoreland that color really doesn't matter down there if you can find the fish....that's the trick. ;)
With this weather we just had...they'll be very deep, the deepest they'll be all year then, they'll stabilize during winter from 12 to 25 feet and suspend. FNF :-)
spooks were chrome and black. my biggest smallie that weekend (just over 6 lbs) hit a firetiger propbait.
