Hooked a Musky at Bull Run

I went to BR Steam Plant this morning with kids. I had chicken liver, minnows, worms and striper plugs. I caught a carp on liver there the other day real fast so I figured the kids would catch some. Not a bite on anything from 7 to 9. I was throwing zara spook and shad rap to the topwater blowups with no luck. Saw a guy on a boat catch a large fish from a distance. At 930 we moved from the discharge point to further towards the main lake (on the bank). Had the kids spinning rod in with minnow on it with a small hook. Saw many more splashing fish and then i see the line moving on the small rod. I picked it up and felt hung up but set the hook and then see the line moving set and reeled and then the drag is screaming for a couple runs and a the musky went straight down the bank among trees jumped and spit the hook. Looked 3 to 4 feet. turned out the guys in the boat caught a 37 inch musky.

RE: Hooked a Musky at Bull Run

They are truly a trophy fish, nothing compares to the fight of a big musky, i just hope that people abide by the rules, the limit is 44 inches and its important to tell everybody you see that catches one that they are only allowed to keep one fish over 44 inches. Id like to see a 50 inch limit on melton hill. These fish are growing up and it won't be long until there is a state record from melton hill. Ive had several fish over 40 inches this year all released quickly. There is going to be a musky club meeting at gander mtn in knoxville the 18th of January at 7 i believe. good opportunity to meet local anglers that know how to targert muskies.

Did you see or have you heard of any striper activity around the stem plant yet. I am going to norris this weekend and i'm not against driving over there to catch some bigger fish. thanks for the report.
