Night time Fish-N

Yep,,,, I've read the articals in Bassmasters and all the stories that Bill Dance and Hank Parker print about "fish-N" after dark.

Still no luck,,,, will you find night time bass in day time areas?, under docks and in weeds, or will they travel into the deeper water after dark. Do they hit more on top after dark? or still eat plastic worms like in the day light time.

I don't want to moter all around the lake when it gets dark so I want to be in a "good area" just at dusk to fish that water, shallow or deep? rip rap or grass? flip docks or break lines in the lake.

Does night time fishing have a "magic hour" when they feed? 2hr. befor daylight or just after dark ? or all night long?.

As a kid we would fish for catfish after dark you just sat and wait. Fishing for bass in a boat, I feel you must move around on the water, if for nothing else to make the bugs work harder to buzz around your ears. Any tips about your lures, baits or locations from you night owls that stay out late on the lake. And how do you back your trailer back into your "dark drive way with out seeing any back up lights from your truck or trailer. Thanks guys I need some direction

I do not bass fish. I go after walleye and, usually hit the water around 1:00 am and fish till first light. I usually catch more bass than anything and, have caught several 6 lb+ bass.

I catch most using a small spinner bait or a #5 shadrap shallow diver. I catch most bass shallow, weed line and rocky points. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass.

Chrome rattle trap works well too. Can't help you with the worm rig.

As for backing the trailer in the drive, fish till day light or, I often place my flash light on my trailer step. It works for me.

With the dog days of summer,, night time fishing sounds like the ticket.

I have bass fished all of my life and love it. I do not do it very often but over the course of my life the best baits(generally speaking) would be a black spinnerbait with a colorado blade or a plastic worm(I usually use black or violet). There is no magic time(same as fishing during the day). I would not hesitate to use a buzzbait or a chugger(pop-r or jitterbug type)if I could see to throw fairly accurately. We night fished from summer until ice started to form. The spinnerbaits we slowrolled down a weedline waiting for a "tic" indicating a bite throwing the bait up into a few feet of water down to 10-12'. The worms we would throw around whatever structure was present(docks,rocks,weeds,lilypads,etc). If you are fishing a clear water lake I find that the fishing is actually better after dark. For example if you fish lake Wawasee in the canals the fish will roam more from under the docks making them easier for me to catch. As far as moving around I move the asme as during the day although having to idle on a large lake would make time idling a consideration.

I fish B-ville almost every Friday night from sunset to about 10am the next day. It seems to me the lakes with clear water always seem to have the best night bite. Add heavy daytime traffic and it makes the night bite even better, like say Brookville!

Early in the night fishing season seems like the bite is less consistent, for instance, best bite one night will be from 10pm to 2pm. Then a week later the best bite is from 2am to 4am. As the summer proceeds and water warms they become more predictable.

I use nearly the same baits for night fishing clear water as I use during the day with a few exceptions. I like to throw a short arm, black spinnerbait with black blade and black/red skirt at night versus a white willow in daytime. 10 inch worms are definately on one of my rods all night long, as well as a black or black/blue jig.

But one of my best baits at night is a tube, T-rigged or C-rigged, no rattle. Its there living room down there and when you drop a bait into there living room believe me they know it. Remember they can see just fine in the dark. Bass eyes have cones and rods that adjust at dusk and dawn to adjust their night/day vision.

As far as the dark driveway goes, if you have a buddy with you have him use a flashlight to guide you or just stay until the next day like we do and you eliminate the dark driveway problem. LOL

Good luck with your night fishing. I would rather fish at night than the daytime when it gets hot. Not just for the cool nights and better bite though, there is nothing else like it. Being out there at night, less traffic, you have the lake to yourself with the night sounds, smells and sky is absolutely hypnotic and addicting!

I have tried night fishing a few times for both bass and crappie. The trick it to have a good lighting setup.

You can make some light stands out of PVC plastic pipes easily. And for lights you can use some light bulbs that run off 12 volts DC current with a small light socket and metal reflector. Just cut the AC plug off the end of the cord and solder on a new 12 volt DC cigarette lighter plug. DC current is much safer to work with when on or around water. Put a couple of battery packs or extra deep cycle batteries in your boat and you are all set.

A lot of people use black lights for night fishing. They help illuminate the fishing lines at night. I have not used a black light yet so can't say too much about them. But lots of guys swear by them.

For crappie fishing at night I use submergable lights. They are all 12volt type and were purchased at walmart. They are used when the boat is anchored at both ends and sitting over a good spot. The lights attract the smaller bait fish to the boat and that brings in the other fish. Normally I will fish with live minnows when anchored at night fishing for crappie.

But the key it to get the boat setup first before it gets dark.

Blacklights are the only way to go. The white light attracts bugs big time, the black light doesn't attract them as much and makes fishing much more comfortable. Once your eyes adjust to the dark you can see pretty good and if you use the flourescent line it glows in the dark under the black light, makes 10lb test look like rope! Bites are much easier to detect and makes tying up hooks in the dark much easier as well.

Theres quites a few brands out there that have both a black and a flourescent white light as well. Bass Pro have their own BPS brand and Walmart sells a set with black light on one side and white light on the reverse side at a reasonable price.

But IMO the best out there are Stan Sloans night light rigs. They have the Black and white lights on the same side with a switch to turn both on at the same time or use the black or white individually. They are pricey at about $100.00 apeice but they are well made and last forever.

Are you going out of Morgans or White Water Canoe rental? We do it every year and camp @ the Franklin County park just out of B-Ville. I usualy don't take a rod or boat with me on these trips, but if a buddy showed up and offered, how can I refuse :)

I have been keeping abreast of the water situation @ B-Ville. Right now the river is up and rolling pretty good. If they get anymore rain @ all we will probably wait till another weekend.
