Just a note to clear up a fine point.

Copper Sulfate is a commonly used algaecide, but in recommended doses it generally does not kill other aquatic plants. CS tends to be of pretty short term effectivness on algae, especially in hard water. The copper will bind with disolved minerals in the water and precipitate out to become tied up the the bottom muck. I'm not sure what effect it might have there on snails.

I'm not going to get into the Golden Corral thing.
