In. Muskie???

I am a Muskie fisherman and I just took a new job in Southern Ind. was wondering if anyone on this forum was a muskie angler and if they might have any info???

Have never fished for muskie but would love to sometime. I have never heard of any muskie in So. IN but if you wants to get into those beast in IN you would have to drive way up north to North Webster, IN. Webster lake is the # UNO muskie lake in the state. DNR did a study last year and it showed a large population, 1 adult muskie per acre. To be considered a good muskie lake the standard is 1 adult muskie per 5 acre. There are no public access that I know of for Webster but you can get to it by way of Backwater lake which connected to Webster by a metal causeway to the right of the lauch ramp.

Not sure how close you are too the Ohio border....but, Lake Cowan in Wilmington Ohio, used to hold a great deal of muskie. Wilmington is about 1hr drive from I-74 at the border of ohio and Indiana...Hope it helps!

I don't fish for em on purpose, but I hear Cave Run down around Louisville is loaded with bigguns.

There are actually a couple of spots down south you can go for musky; Plover Pit by Edinburgh or Bass Lake by Sullivan IN. Bass Lake is probably the better of the two but I did have a nice 40-incher follow a bait on Plover on March 2nd, so I know there's some nice ones in there. Plover also has a small population of tiger musky too.

Still, the trip up north to Webster, Tippy, or the Barbee Chain is certainly worth it - having more than one adult musky per acre!! The last figure I saw was closer to 7 in Webster. Regardless, there are actually a number of places to go in Indiana now that are pretty good.

Depending upon where you are in southern IN, Cave Run (about 50 miles east of Lexington, KY) & Green River (just south of Campbellsville, KY) may be nearer than Webster, IN. Both have lots of mean, biting fish.

Caesar Creek, near Wilmington, is OH’s newest musky lake. Stocked since ’98, fish to 42” are beginning to show.

Curious that nobody has mentioned Brookville, IN. Stocked annually since its impoundment, I’d be interested to hear anything Mr. Rigby would like to say about it!

You'd think we would be catching them more often while bass fishing. My biggest is a 48 inch Musky from Cave Run on a Brushog with 10lb test, had her right in the upper lip so she couldn't get to the line with those teeth. Maybe that explains some of the break offs I've had on big fish that I never got close enough to the surface to get a look at.

I've never caught a Muskie in B-ville, however I did see a monster Muskie that had to be at least 4ft long about 2 years ago in the cove just off the north side of the Fairfield Causeway. At first I thoght it was a log but when I got right up close on her, she moved off slowly and I could tell by the markings that it was definately a Muskie, I've caught my fair share of the beasts at Cave Run to know for certain it was a Muskie.

And look @ the spike in stocking numbers in '02 & '03. There could be a corresponding spike in the number of 36-40" fish swimming around, too!

My wife caught one about 30 inches when we were trolling for Walleye out on the Fairfield flats a few years back. They should be getting big with the endless supply of food in that lake for them. I do know they are tough to target and catch there however...according to my Musky fishing buddies. Speaking of which, if you are interested in catching them....I mean really catching them (seeing multiples per day).....then you might consider taking a trip with Mike Ice up north. Check him out, http://www.icemansguideservice.com/. He stays on these fish and he is a GREAT guide.

I would reccomend Mike Ice to anyone who is serious about catching a trophy Musky. He is the man. He also gives weekly reports on my multi-species site I own.

thanks guys there is a good bit of info there I was wondering if on plover or bass you could use your bass boat? I believe I have met the Ice man I fish the PMTT and guide abit at green river and fish cave alot, I did live in lexington. However always searching for new waters to fish.
