JMAC, at the risk of incurring wrath from others on here, I would suggest at this time of year that you rig up a 6 or 7 inch lizard (watermelon-berry) with an 1/8 ounce weight, texas style. Concentrate on riprap (30 yards straight out from the ramp is a great place to start). Try the bank around the campground - it is obvious. Also, run around to the tubes, but do not go through them. Instead, fish the rock between the openings. Not much, but a start.

Well, I can tell you that each of the past 4 days straight I have seen as many as 30 people at a time fishing on that ruip-rap in front of the ramp, and the spot by the tubes has been beat plumb to death this week. Boats have been lines up waiting their turn along the causeway.

    Jmac,

Mike Axsom is currently down at Toledo Bend trappin gators to bring up to stock into West Boggs. The IDNR is recommending stockin gators for anyone with a gar, mud turtle, or jet ski over population.

When he gets back (if he gets back) I am sure he can help you out.

Since Chigger is to busy sucking up to Axsom, here a few tips on Boggs.

Soft plastic work well around the stump fields in the upper end. Most of the big fish are caught off deeper sturcture from the numerous brush piles planted. Check the upper end from the camp ground bank to the point with the metal wall around it. If you go through the tubes the bank on the left hand side ( deeper bank) usually holds some good fish.

All of these places I have personally fished in tournaments and did very well on. This was unitl the great manager decieded to put a bounty on tournamenst and ran most of them off the lake.

Hopefully the gators will dine on Chigger and his buddy one of these days.

    Wow,

Don't hate me cause I be beautiful. You be a hater son. You might want to go to church and try and get that out of you before its too late, could ruin your sense of humor.

Don't pick on me and Mike. We go way back when we were Special Forces Airborne SWAT SEALS side door gunners back in Nam together. We be tough guys. Did I mention he was trappin gators at Toledo Bend, with his BARE HANDS!

Sounds like a good deal turnin in illegal tournaments for $200 bucks. I could buy 7 more Lucky Craft for that.

Humm. A bounty on tournaments? There's an idea. Since we now have a pretty full calander of registered tournaments, I assume we should only put a bounty on unregistered ones. Consider it done. We'll offer up to $200 for information that leads to the conviction of any person found to be hosting an unregistered fishing contest on the lake. A conviction would be for tresspass for using the public facilitiy for an activity for which a fee is charged, without payment of that fee. To provide information, contact 812-295-3421, or just advise any park staff member you find on duty.

    Thanks for your input Berry!

Mike, Some anglers take part in big bass contests. Any problem with anglers fishing west boggs that have paid an entry fee to an organization sponsoring a big bass contest where anglers can fish any lake they choose to catch fish that will be weighed/measured for prizes? Fish caught in one lake compete against fish caught from another.

LAST EDITED ON Apr-20-06 AT 06:38AM (EST)[p]I'd like to know more about that, but on the surface it does not seem like it should present any problem for us. Sounds like fun. Had a guy in last week who had taken a bass over 8 lbs. and he was looking for someone to weight and verify it for him, as he was not in the tournament taking place at the time.

    Mike,

I am glad to see that you still want to stick it to the tournament anglers. First we get blamed for putting shad in the lake, you charge 100 per tourny regardless of size, its nine bucks a day to launch. Serious topics are like the injured swan, or undersized fish being kept is ignored.

It appears to me that the only reason that you don't want people fishing tourny with out your permission is because you don't get any more money.

What is the last thing that you or your park did for the fisherman? Have you increased habitat, or anything!!!. All I see is things done to help out the campers, hikers, etc.

    Berry,

You are really making yourself look bad.

I think the times they tried to eliminate shad and restock the lake were in the interest of anglers. Don't you?

You can argue about the rules till the end of time. In the end you have choices on where you want to fish. If you don't like a particular lake or park, just don't fish it. West Boggs isn't that big anyway, and crowded in the summer. Wouldn't another lake be more peaceful and fun to fish when its crowded?

I have concerns about rules and taxes too. I personally am not going to license my boat this year, just so the state doesn't get my money again when I don't fish many public lakes anyway.

I like the Cincinnati Reds and Chicago Cubs baseball games, but half the summer when I am working nights I can't record the games because I can't get the express written consent of major league baseball. Thats just the rules.
