Ray,
FYI, I responded to your e-mail a little while ago concerning the matter. Had to use my Yahoo account due to problems with the other one.

Well, the thread concerning the Star coverage got my little wheels turning. I made a few calls and e-mails yesterday to some friends. We are going to start a fishing rag for Indiana. The first copy is expected in January and every month after that. I have a graphic designer who designed Yammamotos and Hilderbrandts catalog doing our layouts. I have someone who owned a magazine before to help out and I have been hard at it the last two days lining up sponsors to make it go. It is going to happen.
It is going to be a multi-species layout. It is going to be about fishing in Indiana, not Texas or Florida. I am making my way through my contacts right now with fishermen who are at the top of their respected field in their species. I promise it will be well written and I will not sell it out to become a rag full of advertising and no content. Anyone on here who knows me, knows I will follow through. Once I set my mind to something I am like a bulldog, nonstop untill I reach my desired goal. We are going to be meeting in May to layout the rag and get a mock copy printed up to show around all the outdoor shops. If you have a shop you would like to see it in, let me know and I will contact them to make sure they have copy's in their stores.

I would make sure you hit up as many wal marts as possible. Even though they put the little man out, they have a lot of people going through that fishing section. I am in college, and would be interested in trying to write an article or two. I am not the best fisherman, but I think I could come up with some pretty good stories and or articles. Anyway, if I can help out in some way, I would be interested. I hope to pursue a career in the hunting/fishing industry when I graduate, and this would be a good way for me to get my foot in the door. Thanks.
I am sure you are already planning on doing so or at least trying; but, I would definitely contact Bass Pro about displaying it. Many of us Louisvillians shop over there and fish Patoka. I would definitely pick up a copy when over there picking up some more un-needed tackle, lol.
thanks.
Excellent, Ray. I am glad to hear it. Now, since I started the thread, I think it is only appropriate that I get to be the first subscriber. I want to take out a year's subscription to whatever you end up with. When you have figures, let me know. I would also be interested in advertising information. I'm thinking you're going to have a good time with this and I wish you every success.
Sounds great. I could use another online magaize to read. I have a hard time filling my days reading the few fishing forums that I belong too.
I just finished reading the new Indiana Fish and game magazine and it only had two articles that I was really interested in. I read the latest In-Fisherman Magazine in about 15 mintues as it only had one crappie fishing article.
I'll try to remember to check out your new magaine when you get it done.

I went to the Little Patoka River launch ramp for the first time last year. Been fishing at Patoka lake since it opened but not that often. I was there the day that a tournament was being held. Most of the trucks in the parking lot were from KY. I suspect that it was a Lousiville KY bass club or something. They were weighing in some nice bass and a few small mouth bass too.

Hey Ray,
You have fan mail already... LOL
Even as a Kentuckian, I look forward to your magazine. Once you get it going strong, you can always start a second one focusing on KY too.

Sorry I have not been on lately fellas. It seems my mother-inlaw has taken a turn for the worse. I have been devoting all my available time to my wife.
Once we get closer to our designated printing date, I will toss out there all the subscription information. To those who responded via e-mail, I got them, just have not had time to respond with the circumstances I am in right now. I will however get to them as soon as things calm down a little bit around here. We are getting all our ducks in a row, so it is going to happen, count on it. I also appreciate all the words of encouragement as I will surely need it!!

Ray,
Please know you, your wife, and the rest of your family is in my family's prayers.
Being with your wife right now is certainly the right thing to do.
May God give you and your family the comfort that only He can give.

Ray,
Sales Ads will make or break the magazine. I know because back in the mid 80's a friend of mine and I started our own magazine, hired writers and photographers, ran it for 6 mos. hired a distributor and the whole ball of wax. Our advertising sales slumped, poor clients, wouldn't pay and we folded up. I am a graphic designer, avid fisherman, rod builder/taxidermist/artist like you, and really wanted this to work for us. You must work diligently to get the sponsors and get alot of them. No bartering or free ads. Also choose a good printer, ask to see their work, and work on them for a good price. You must have editions ready 3 mos in advance. If you want any more advice, email me.
