    RE: BLUE GRASS

There was an article about blue grass pit in this months issue of Indiana Fish and Game magazine. They interviewed Dan Carnahan, Indiana DNR's District 7 Fisheries Biologist and he was talking about the Surveys he has performed on this pit. He talks about the crappie population on blue grass pit. I fished there when Alan did the creel surveys. Alan worked for Dan two summers ago and I got to be good friends with him. Alan would run the pit every few days each half hour or each hour and count the number of fisherman on the lake and did the creek surveys. Alan did a thorough job. So the data he collected is going to help Dan manage this pit better. I also watched Dan and his crew do his electro shocking on blue grass and meet Dan at the boat ramp around midnight after they were finished with their shocking trip. I wish I could have been in the boat with them as I got to perform electro shocking at Purdue when I took a fisheries biology class many years ago. Our class got to take the Purdue University boat out on the Walbash River one day and conduct some electro shocking and it was reall fun work. It's not easy work but it's fun if you enjoy that sort of thing.

    RE: BLUE GRASS

I am going to be fishin Blue Grass real soon. Been busy getting prepared for some camping trips. Had to replace the tent and get some other supplies.

Which pits did you fish at the Blue Grass Fish and Wildlife Area. Did you fish out of a boat and hit the three main pits. Those are the only three pits with concrete launch ramps. Although there are some launch ramps that are gravel. The south end of Loon is a gravel launch ramp and the North end of Blue Grass Pit is gravel too. All the other smaller pits have gravel launch ramps if they have a lauch ramp.

Blue grass needs some courtesy docks. I'll be that the Fish and Wildlife Areas up North have courtesy docks for boats to park next to while launching and parking the trucks. Who wants to scratch up a nice boat by pulling it up onto the concrete ramp. Besides that blocks the ramp for the next guy launching and slows everthing down.

Maybe some big corporation can help fund the buiding of some courtesty docks. They could have their corporate name painted on the docks. That would be good advertizing and it's GREEN advertizing which can't hurt none. I think that ALCOA sponsored a boat ramp down by YankeeTown, IN. Maybe Toyota or Whirlpool or GE or Vectren could become a DNR sponsor. God only knows that the IN DNR needs the money or help.
