    Carp in WEST BOGGS

I went to boggs yesterday and saw a bunch of carp and big ones at that in the back of several of the pockets where I was hoping to find a few spawners (bass). Even though there "are no carp in west boggs", anyone who is looking will find them now. with all of the finger pointing that has been directed at different groups of people I can say for certain that it is in no ones interest for them to be in there. This just goes to show that even when you drain a lake and take All the rough fish and undesirables out (gizzard shad) that if there were a few left in some puddles or upstream, maybe "those **** bass fishermen" or better yet, "those **** tournament bass fishermen" are innocent afterall. If all the shad were not removed in the first place, if even a few shad were left, in the lake when it was renovated they could easily in 10-12 years be the hundreds of thousands or more that are in there now.

    Carp Catch/Kill derby anyone??

Killing of carp unless you are taking them home is illegal in Indiana as described by the Wanton Waste of Fish section in the DNR guide.

    LOL.

Will the DNR send a SWAT team out to bring you in for that?
If I can get a plea bargain from the DNR, I will turn myself in.

Raccoons and Turkey Vultures are people too you know. They need to eat, and can't go to McDonald's like you can.

    Kingofcrap,

Watch it dude, I watch CSI and know how dispose of things. I will wear gloves so my prints don't get on the carp. I will set fake license plates when fishing and wear a Rod Stewart wig I bought at party mania.

I will be waiting to see it on the news that they are looking for Rod Stewart for banking carp.

Hey I am doing it for the turkey vultures, they like sushi. Might bank a few long nose gar too.

Mike, I know it's a long haul from where you live but take a drive up to Prairie Creek Reservoir in Muncie. This used to be a great fishery but now completely ruined. There are carp of every types in there, one trip to this God forsaken place will make you wanting to go home put on some scuba gear and hunt down everyone of them crap, I meant carp! TAKE CARE OF IT NOW BEFORE IT GETS OUT OF HAND.

I recently read that if you cut open the stomach of a mature carp that lives in a lake like Brookville, you will find up to 150 zebra muscle inside, shells and all. That would make them a pretty valuable asset to some of our lakes and rivers.

While we have not found Carp in any of the ongoing fisheries studies up to 2004, eight were collected in the 2005 sample. Those ranged in size from 13.1" to 24.1". I'll be interested to see what shows up in the next survey, which will likely take place in June. I know of no reason to suspect bass anglers of an intentional introduction. I did hear an unsubstaintiated report a few years ago that a local man had been seen carrying what looked like carp and that he had told someone that he wanted them to be back in the lake. I also know that in the long running arguments about the development of a sewer service project around the lake, I heard some of the anti-sewer folks make a statement in a public meeting that the real problem with the lake's water quality was that IDNR "ruined it by killed all the Carp", so who knows what might have taken place in dark of night. Some of those folks would have made good extras for the movie "Deliverance"

Deliverence. Now there was a movie. You just had to love that movie and the conotations is suggested about the Deep South.

China is the home of the Carp. Some people actually eat those boney things.

Their rooting around in the shallows can't be good for the largemouth bass nest or any other sport fish nest in the shallows. By mudding up the water the amount of sunlight that can reach the eggs is diminished somewhat. Not sure if that's good for the bass eggs trying to develope

At least these are not the Flying Fish type Carp that get scared when a boat approaches them and then jump 5 ft out of the water. Those big old fish could kill a guy if he were in a bass tournament going >60 mph and trying to get to his favorite spot first. Man one of those things could take a head off the body in a heart beat if you ran into it going fast. It would not matter if your boat was fiberglass or Aluminum :)

    Hogmouth,

Carp are the scourge of the nation. I doubt that there are any public lakes without them. I don't think they are the problem that shad are though, from what I have read before.

Actually they can be fun to catch, and certainly challenge your average bass rig. I used to target them when I was a kid in one of the river flood lakes of the Wabash near Terre Haute.

I doubt that bass anglers introduced them, had to be a live bait angler. Most bass anglers don't use live bait.

I think the shad could never be killed off totally, so keeping them out may be impossible. Keeping them under control might be possible, if additional predators are introduced.

    RE: Carp in WEST BOGGS

Hi, Guys. You know the carp were mostly brought here by our forefathers! They thought carp were the best fish arround. Looks like they should have developed a taste for salmon, trout, walleye, or panfish. It's hard to believe that there are still bone heads selling anything but "Fathead minnows". They never get over 3" and are easy to grow here. Clear creek in Martinsville raises them for $6.50 a pound. I don't know that carp are really a problem for LM anywhere. They can muddy shallow area's. And they are real hard fighters that are not as easy to catch. Now those large shad really overpopulate bad without large preditor fish.
