    RE: Carp in WEST BOGGS

While we have not found Carp in any of the ongoing fisheries studies up to 2004, eight were collected in the 2005 sample. Those ranged in size from 13.1" to 24.1". I'll be interested to see what shows up in the next survey, which will likely take place in June. I know of no reason to suspect bass anglers of an intentional introduction. I did hear an unsubstaintiated report a few years ago that a local man had been seen carrying what looked like carp and that he had told someone that he wanted them to be back in the lake. I also know that in the long running arguments about the development of a sewer service project around the lake, I heard some of the anti-sewer folks make a statement in a public meeting that the real problem with the lake's water quality was that IDNR "ruined it by killed all the Carp", so who knows what might have taken place in dark of night. Some of those folks would have made good extras for the movie "Deliverance"

    RE: Carp in WEST BOGGS

Deliverence. Now there was a movie. You just had to love that movie and the conotations is suggested about the Deep South.

China is the home of the Carp. Some people actually eat those boney things.

Their rooting around in the shallows can't be good for the largemouth bass nest or any other sport fish nest in the shallows. By mudding up the water the amount of sunlight that can reach the eggs is diminished somewhat. Not sure if that's good for the bass eggs trying to develope

At least these are not the Flying Fish type Carp that get scared when a boat approaches them and then jump 5 ft out of the water. Those big old fish could kill a guy if he were in a bass tournament going >60 mph and trying to get to his favorite spot first. Man one of those things could take a head off the body in a heart beat if you ran into it going fast. It would not matter if your boat was fiberglass or Aluminum :)
