RE: Where you putting in at?

I fish mainly for crappie these days. The word that I have from PL is that the small crappie are very active and it's hard to not catch them up above Walls.

I know that several years ago I fished dumplin creek in May and caught about 100 little crappie using a white lighting #18 1.5" long plastic hollow jig body from Bass Pro Shops and a 1/16oz lead head minnow jig that I got at Walmart. That and I put a chartruse crappie nibble on the bait.

I took friend that's 78 years old with me that time and they caught a lot of fish and had a good time. This is the type of fishing that the little ones may enjoy. Lots of action all day l ong. But it's difficult to catch the larger fish with all the small fish being so active.

I would suggest using larger baits for the bigger fish to avoid the small fish. I am talking about baits at least 3" long or maybe you might get by with 2.5" long baits.

Tipping a small 1.5" jig with a 2" long shiner may work too.

As for bass I can't help you there.

I heard that the fish have not spawned yet. That comes from my buddie PL who fishs the lake every weekend unless he has to work.

    Regards,

    Moose1am

You can't exactly prefish from 3 hours away when you have to work either. So when I finally get the chance to go I like to be prepared. If you don't have any advice/information to add then why don't you go post on a different topic.

Good advice. Here's a sure fire. Go up river to the secongd bend...Throw a 1.5 ounce Bubble Gum Boohyay Jig at the trees that criss cross in the river on that bend. Frenzy.....you'll freakin' clean up. Walk to the podium with style as uf you found them in practice!

    You da' man.

Lets me get this straight, you would rather based your entire fishing/tournament day on what someone, you don't personally know, told you instead of your own experience? You must have not been fishing tournament for too long. Not to discredit any of the poster who gave you info but I personally only trust my best buddies when it come to fishing info. FYI, I am too live 3-3.5 hrs away from Patoka. If the tourn. is on Sunday, I definetely plan ahead of time to be there on Sat.

    How did you do?

How did you do in the tournament?

And by the way, to the board master, why was my post deleted when all I asked was how he did?

    Is that asking to much???

LAST EDITED ON May-17-06 AT 06:07PM (EST)[p]I went to the lake a day early. I just wanted to have some sort of idea about what stage the fish are in and anything else that might give me an idea of where to start. Almost 9,000 acres is a lot of water to cover going into something blind. Even if I'm just going down to fish for fun I like to try and get some information on what's working, etc...

    RE: How did you do?

We went way up river. Bites were hard to come by. Caught a crappie right off the bat and a small bass about 20 minutes later. Had another bass later on in the day that got off at the boat. Other than that we hardly had a hit. Water was anywhere from 60-64 degrees and pretty stained up river. It was fairly clear on the main lake from what I saw on Saturday. Winner had over 19 lbs. on 6 fish. I am not completly sure but I believe he caught them all right around the ramp, fishing for fish that had been caught at previous tournaments and released. It must have worked.
