Fished there Sat.and Mon., caught fish on both ends of the lake and in between too! More smallies south of the Fairfield Causeway and more LM above. Best baits were soft plastics, tubes, brushogs, lizards, flukes, etc. Go early and stay late. I caught most of my fish on main lake points & pockets to about halfway back in the creeks.

The night bite is just starting to heat up too! We started about 3AM on Sat and caught several nice SM in the dark. But caught enough during the day to keep it interesting. Most of our LM came from mid day on at the north end of the lake.

Lower end on of the lake had a surface temp of about 65 in the AM, warming to about 68-70 by mid day. North end had water temps about 10 degrees warmer in some areas. As usual south of the Causeway was fairly clear, becoming more stained to muddy the further north you go. Good luck!

Phil, I'll be there on Friday as well, Look for a Green Ranger 482 with a Merc 150. Stop and say hello if you see me there. I'll be on the lower end of the lake for smallies in the AM, the idle zone by PM if the lake gets choppy.

Fishhead, if you don't mind telling, what colors were you using in those baits. I've been throwing a large selection of lures from spinnerbaits, crankbaits, jerkbaits, topwaters, and had very limited success so far.

I do have a couple favorite color combos and baits that I favor at Brookville that I would rather not share here, but I can tell you that the colors really varied depending on which end of the lake. But for the most part natural colors like smoke, pumpkinseed, green pumpkin, watermelon seed, etc. all produced fish for us in the lower end of the lake. Truthfully, I don't think its as much a color thing as a presentation and confidence factor. Proper boat positioning and presentation can make all the difference in the world, no matter what lake, but B-ville it can be critical.

In the idle zone the water was more stained and darker colors produced better, such as black/blue, black/brown, and colors with blue flake all produced.

The presentation those days was slow. Keep the bait in the water as long as possible. My buddy caught half of what I did, but he made 3-4 casts for my one cast. Also, he must have used 10 different colors and baits that day, I just stuck with 3 baits and 3 colors all day, even in the dark. I was confident with the bait and color and kept it in the strike zone longer that he did and I think that made the big difference. Some days the fish may prefer a faster or moving presentation, but the days I was there it was a slow moving bait in about 8-12 ft of water, some fish came from water as deep as 18-20ft. We caught a few fish early up shallow but the rest of the fish came from deeper water. Success at Brookville really depends on doing your homework like knowing where those deep water stumps, rockpiles, humps and ledges are. Also, time on the water understanding what the fish are doing, meaning phase of spawn, summer/fall patterns, how they react in adverse weather versus stable weather, water levels/flows and the thermocline all figure into the Brookville puzzle.

Hope this helps, I know I didn't get real specific regarding baits and colors, but thats half the fun of it, figuring out what they want, when they want it and how they want it, then putting it to work for you successfully. Good luck.

Thanks alot Fishhead. That info will help me out alot. I'm not a very big fan of soft plastics on big lakes like that but I'm definitely working on it. I like throwing a fluke alot. Have you had much luck at B'ville with that? Hoping to head over this weekend sometime if the pleasure boaters aren't too nuts. Thanks again.
