Fished St. Clair on Saturday. What an awesome time. We fished from 7-2PM caught and released 48 smallmouth from 2 to 5 pounds. The bite is hot right now. Just drifted casting roadkill tubes. Anybody that hasn't fished that lake needs to try it.

Hello,
We usually go to St.Clair a week in June, a week in August and the first week of October. June for the eyes. August for the perch. October for smallies and perch. October is the best for the big smallies 2-5 lb. average. I have found that drifting and jigging curly-tail jigs to be the most productive. We always stay on the Canadian side. It is always alot cheaper and the fishing is much better than the Michigan side.
I am going to St. Clair (Canadian waters) for the first time in July. Do you use a weight with the curly tail grubs and what color seems to work best?
Hello,
I like smoke or firecracker when the water is clear and the drift is slow (no wind). Pumpkinseed or watermelon with a good chop. Chartreuse when its nasty. Sometimes a bare jig with no body but tipped with a pinch of crawler. These tactics have always out produced the traditional dragging of the watermelon tubes for us. I like to keep the jigs just clipping the tops of the weeds. 19' to 13' of water tends to be the depth. We stay in Mitchells Bay and run 240 degrees out of the bay to 19' of water. It's about 9 miles out. Make sure you troll some long bodied cranks on the way out or in for musky. If you have any questions post or drop me a line. Good luck!!
