In some areas they have formed surface matting. I was there last weekend and fishing was tough, only managed to catch a few short fish on buzzbait early. Fished frogs all day and never got a bite, any tips on using them would be appreciated!!!

Was planning on heading to Patoka this weekend. Haven't been for several weeks and was curious about the weeds. Last time I was there they were getting pretty thick. Are they matted on the surface? Just curious.
Thanks

Redbug,
I don't know if this will work at Patoka, but on KY Lake I have had some luck fishing around and through weed beds with a darter jig and a curly tail grub.
I don't normally make real long casts, as I don't want to go right through the clumps because the jigs are not weedless. I've caught a lot of fish using this method. Good luck,
Danny
Thanks for the info. I will give you a report next week. Never had much luck on the frog at Patoka. Don't know why, seems to work well on other lakes. Like flip jigs in the matted stuff.
Caught three keepers in about 7 hours. Two were just over 17 inches one just barely over 15. No solid pattern. Caught one flipping weeds beds, which are everywhere. Caught other two carolina draggin off points in 12-16 foot of water. Only two shorts in morning topwater attempt.
