Went fishing Saturday and Sunday. I caught 6 nice crappie Saturday in about 2 hours. Went again Sunday and caught about 6 more nice crappie. Found the fish in 17ft of water off a sharp dropoff. About 10ft from the end of the drop off there is some underwater brush that comes up off the bottom about ten foot high. It's about 8 to 10ft under the surface of the water these days.
Most all spring and early summer in early June I caught fish here about 10 ft down. They were suspended. Yesterday I found the fish on the bottom. They were in the same spot today, Sunday.
I fished tonight until the wind blew me off the water.
Now here is the funny thing. Saw two other guys fishing shallow water yesterday. They were not more than 100 yard away as we could talk to each other pretty easily. They were fishing with bobbers in about 2ft of water. They caught about 10 crappie, a few small bass and two catfish.
So the fish yesterday were both in 18ft of water and in 2ft of water at the same time.
Surface water temp were in the upper eighties according to my Minn-kota water temp gauge.
I was fishing with small 1" long Chub Minnows purchased at the local bait shop. Added a chartruse crappie nibble to the #4 hook just to add some more incentive to make the fish bite.
I did catch one crappie today on a Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider jig. It was motor oil colored and I added a bit of Dr. Juice to the plastic bait. Caught that crappie as the bait neared the boat and I could see the fish hit the bait turn sideways and try to swim off as I set the hook. That fish was caught today where the two guys fished shallow yesterday.
It's going to rain the next few days so I am glad that I got the chance to wet a line before it starts raining.
Regards,
