I Wanted to finalized a report on this Electric Fillet Knife. I have reported on this knife before but things have changed for some reason.

This is model number 31500 Series. It's powered by Nickelmetalhydride batteries inside the unit.

It seems that the more you use this fillet knife and recharge it the better it's power gets.

When I first started using the knife I charged it up for 4 hours like the directions said and found that I could not even fillet a 1lb KY lake Crappie. The knife died on the first try to fillet the one side of this fish. I put the knife away and used a manual fillet knife to get the fish cleaned.

When I got home I put that knife away and was going to take it back for a refund but I didn't. I set it aside and used another fillet knife for a while.

Then one day I thought I would give the knife another try. This time I charged it up for 4 hours before using it. But this time the inside of the handle where the motor is started to smoke. I stopped using this knife that time but did note that it didn't die from lack of battery juice. That was the good news. But the bad news was I thought I may have burned up the electric motor. Maybe I got a drop of water inside the handle that that made it start smoking. I also read where the knife blades can bind and cause too much resistance. Not sure exactly what caused it to smoke that day but I again set the fillet knife aside.

Time passed and I didn't use this fillet knife. I use two other American Anglers Fillet Knife without problems. One was the 110 volt AC powered Fillet Knife and the other was a 12V DC powered Fillet Knife.

This last week I again wanted to try using the Freedom Fillet Knife as it does not have the cords to bother with.

I was pleasantly surprised that this time it worked. I put a different set of blades on the knife and it worked well.

It was nice to be able to fillet the crappie that I caught without having to go get a car battery and run a cord to the knife. I had the freedom that I wanted with the cordless Fillet knife.

In the last two weeks I have caught and cleaned about 4 messes of crappie. The American Angler Freedom Fillet Knife helped me whiz though those crappie in no time. I even put the very thin bladed knife that came with this unit back on to test it out. It worked well this time.

So I am glad that I kept the knife and gave it a third chance.

BTW the directions state that the more you use this knife and the more times you recharge the batteries at first the better it works. That was why I decided to keep the knife and give it a few more tries. I had hoped that the directions were right and that the knife would get better with time.

Now I have three American Angler Fillet knifes to use under various conditions.
