It's been a while since the Army Corp of Engineers posted any data on Patoka Lakes water temps and Dissolved Oxygen lake profiles.
Today they posted new data. The last data was from 9/11/06. That data looked way off.
Today's data is more in line with Historical data for this time of the year at Patoka lake
Thermocline is at around 25 ft and the DO is sufficient down to 25 ft. Below this level the DO drops to less than 3.0 ppm. Bass and Crappie, hybrid stripers and sunfish will be found in the levels of the lake that have at least 5.0 ppm DO concentration.
Weeds that are dying and turned brown may not be producing any oxygen even when the sun is shinning. They may be decaying and bacteria may be eating the dead leaves and plant tissue and consuming more oxygen. It all depends on whether the submerged vegetation is still alive and photosynthesising or not.
This data was probably taken near the **** area as that's the only area that is as deep as the data shows. 50ft depths I suspect are closer to the **** than other areas of the lake. Besides that's where the CORP's office is located.
It's great to see that they got the DO/TEMP meter fixed and back in service. Thanks guys.
