    Brush Creek and Versailles

There was a post a while back on Brush Cr. being open again. Has anyone heard anything??? I know they have been doing pretty well on Versailles for the last month or so.I have a freind that fishes it almost every day and I have been with him twice, yesterday being one of the times. Through all the rain, wind and 51.5 degree murky water we managed to get 22 with 9 or 10 keepers nothing over 2.5 lbs.And including a 1.14 spot.
    2'-6' on jigs and cranks
Most fish came on wood cover
Very light bite, most just carrying bait
All fish still swimming around with just a little case of sore mouth for now.Best day I had with him out there was 27 fish 13 keepers and biggest 5.6 that was 9 days ago.just about same conditions except most fish on Spinnerbait and cranks on weeds.
    Any info on BR.CR. appreciated.

    RE: Brush Creek and Versailles

Brush Creek supplies water for the City of North Vernon, Ind.

The local newspaper is called "The Plain Dealer & Son" The telephone number is 812-346-3973 E-mail address is [email protected]

I asked your question to them over the net, the reply was they "Thought" the work was compleat, and would do a story about it in the future.

Your correct, Brush Creek is a outstanding place to fish, I do know the U.S. Navy Resv. is doing training for Homeland Security in the Resv. several days a month. Those training days no boats will be allowed on the water. The lake will be open to fishermen the rest of the time.

If you learn some more PLEASE let us know, I will also keep my ear to the ground.

"Rumor control" said the Navy would have a posting at the ramp of its traninng days,(that was the story 6 Mo. ago) I haven't been on the lake for three years now because of the low water level. So I don't know if that is a true fact.

The ramp is free,,, nice parking lot,,, out house on the hill if nature calls. Don't hold me to it, but I think DNR from the Crosley fishing and game area take care of the property.

"If" the water level is back to normal it should be gang busters this month and next. The State record bass was caught in Brushcreek back in the 1960's The man who caught the bass was named Buck Horton.

In North Vernon a bar named "Millers Tavern" has the bass mounted and the Indy. Star story on the wall.

I have not fished Brush Creek in several years. It used to be loaded with small crappie but I heard that it also had some huge ones in it. Might have to give it a try this spring. Anyone know if you can still launch and bass boat from it.

You're right about the bgi fish. One of the last times we fished the lake we had 6 fish that weighed 28lbs. granted that was the only time we had a bag like that but we have'nt been there in years.
Thats what this post is about whether the lake level is high enough to launch...and yes a schedule of when the lake is off limits would really be helpful.I live too far from there to ride out and check.

Went to Brush Creek today I found the good ,bad, and ugly

This is what I saw today Saturday the 21 of October.

Looks as if the work on the dam is compleat. The water level is returning to normal. Thats the "GOOD".

The "BAD" is we still need to have the water to come up another 15~20 feet to put a bass boat on the water.

The "UGLY" is Buck brush and small Willow trees have grown all around the ramp. Today a flat bottom boat "Could" make it out to the deeper water, you would have to "push pole" your way through the timber.

The Resv. is the property of I.D.N.R. and the Crosley fish and wild life , they might have more information when the water level is expected to be normal again. No information of the U.S. Navy training dates were posted. In the area of the Homeland Security, you do have posting "PERMISSION MUST BE GRANTED FOR ACCESS" every quarter of a mile.

Brushcreek is Elect. motor only, ramp is still very good (new cement), parking lot can accomidate 15~20 trucks & trailers.

    The lake looks GREAT!
