I would like to know if there is someone that can clean reels for a fair price. I use to watch my dad take his reels apart and service them. But that was back when they were so complicated as they are today. He use to use Trichloroethylene to clean the oil and grease out of them and then he would dry them and re grease and oil them and put them back together. Most of his reels were pre 1986 types. Older Ambassadors or Pfluegers. I had a few daiwa and shimanos as well.
I think that Evansville could use a reel repair shop. We only have one camera shop here these days.
I want to get some of those reel protection covers from Bass Pro Shop to keep over my reels. They are stored in my boat year round and while driving along gravel road they get a lot of dust on the reels. That's hard on reels.
Most of my newer reels are cheap open faced spinning reels from Shakespeare. I have a few new reels that I want to keep clean until I actually start to use them.
If you find some one that works on reels please post the information on this thread.
I'll look around and see if any one knows of anyone. There was a sporting goods store out on the West side of town and I was given a name of a guy that worked on rods. But I think he stopped working on them or moved.
