Got out on the water around 11:00am and headed to one of my spots in Lick Fork about 7 miles away. I spent probably an hour there and in that area fishing other piles and didn't catch the first fish. Tried minnows with no luck, then used 3 different color of tubes with no luck so I went bass fishing since the area I was in looks so good. Caught one around 3lbs on a spinnerbait and for the next hour nothing. So I decided to move to another hole with much deeper water around it and again nothing. I could see fish on my depthfinder but couldn't get any to bite so I moved after about 30min. to another hole with 30'/35' of water around the brushpile. This is about as deep as I ever fish so I dropped the minnows down and started catching fish one after another till I got a limit. None were over 12" and none were under 9". All were fat and still have good color to them. The water temp is right at 50 degrees everywhere I went. What really amazed me today is most of the fish I caught were dead on the bottom in 26' to 32' of water and I mean dead on the bottom. I caught some out away from the cover and I caught some right down in the cover and through it near the bottom. I went to 1/2oz of weight tightlinning since the wind was blowing off and on all day and never from the same direction it seemed. Ya'll know what I'm talking about with the wind. Since I lost a number of sinkers I either need to find a bunch of them cheap or start making them myself. Nice day to be out fishing and didn't see a handfull of boats all day. I was getting concerned I was going home skunked since I told the wife I'd get enought for several meals. Got lucky again.
One other thing Patoka is so high you would have to be very carefull to get a bassboat under the 145 highway bridge. The lake is that high but the water is clear on the main lake.
