RE: Need help!!! How long is gas good???

I was down at Lexington Marine today, and I was talking to a fellow in the service dept. about this exact subject. He was saying that the quality of gas has really declined and it will lose a percentage point of octane after only two weeks. So, if your motor says to use 87 octane and that's what your putting in, you only have a short amount of time before it's really only 86 octane. He was saying that it was really wreaking havoc on these new sophisticated motors. I guess when I buy my boat I will be using the high octane gas for a little more of a buffer.

RE: Need help!!! How long is gas good???

keeping it full helps it to not lose punch, lets less air in the tank therefore it doesn't evaporate out the good stuff,i stabil my gas all time unless i know i'm gonna run it every 10 20 days.when i was taking classes by poulan weedeater our instructor had 87 octane gas that was 120 days old and it would barely light with a match and it burned slow as kerosene.
