    RE: One of the Problems

He he, Jim, what about guys like me that do bowhunt and will never buy a crossbow unless I lose an arm or something. Maybe the stores closed because they had poor customer service. Doesnt something like 80 percent of all small business ventures end in failure anyway?

And I can cut my own arrows, put my own fletching on and so on and so on and the shop I go to is doing just fine.

    RE: One of the Problems

As Jim Pointed out it has ONLY happened in states with Crossbow, and YOU would be an exception if Ohio is an indication.. but OHIO is not Kentucky so we are ONLY supposed to use stats from there if Mr. Sullivan Ok's it and it supports his position.

    Fellas

You guys are missing something here.

I am in TN and we have also done the same thing KY has done, crossbows are legal here during the archery season as well.

Clearly put in place to thin out our deer herd, especially one year after the liberal units were put in place where does are pretty much free game.

And wont archery shops sell crossbows??

    RE: Fellas

Yes they will. BUT in the past in other states, people found the crossbow easier to use, due to the fact you do not have to draw the string back and this could spook the animal.
Crossbows do not need the range time, the accessories, repair, and the maintenance that Bows do. SO more crossbow sales in the end means less for the Archery Stores to sell.
Arrows have to be cut, fletching.. etc.
The big box stores do not have target ranges. So even that is NOT a reason for stores to go out of business.
The easier weapon tends to take over. In Ohio the take of deer is about 5 X the number for regular Archery. Crossbow tends to take over when included WITH archery, while seperate seasons seems to increase sales of both.
Makes sense.. at least to me and most of the people against Crossbow as Archery.

    RE: Fellas

Sorry fellas, just have to pipe up on this one for no good reason, since there aren't a lot of good reasons here anyways.

One of y'all spouted off something about how our hunting here is going to end up like Europe, where only the elite/nobles can hunt now. Wow! That's a leap in logic transcending any rational thought at all. Every wondered how it got that way in Europe? Hmmmm, a culture built on a monarchy...one where nobility is a way of life, and they all just live with it like it's the only way. I just don't see that happening here, not now, not 100 years from now. (please don't argue with that point if you've never studied European history)

Secondly, what if I don't like hunting with a longbow or compound? What if I just personally like hunting with a crossbow? Is that wrong? Of course, I don't deer hunt at all anymore, and never did it with a crossbow before, but what makes one way right and one way wrong? Becuase it's "harder" to kill a big buck with a bow, as opposed to a crossbow, that makes it better? Hmmmm, guess I'm gonna starting hunting quail with a slingshot and rally for shotguns to be illegal too. Hey, hunting 'em with a slingshot will definitely increase the population, increase slingshot sales, possibly open new slingshot stores (since BPS, Dick's and WallyWorld don't sell really nice ones), and create new revenue in the slingshot trade. See? Same logic but not a lick of sense!

    My 2 cents... Enjoy!
