Big Bass Big Cash Next Year

OK, for the sake of argument... IF this were held in June is there any specific weekend that you guys would say was totally off as far as the tournament? Festivals, Charity Tournaments, Boat Races? (Madison) or other events on the river?

LAST EDITED ON Jul-19-06 AT 03:30PM (EST)[p]WOW!! I appreciate all of the input and thank you Jim for starting this thread!

I will say that we have chosen the dates that we would like for next year. As Jim stated, we need to have this in June and I've checked with a few anglers who have said that spawning would most likely not be a factor in June.

That being said, how does June 8,9, & 10 sound? Any conflicts? If there are, let me know. This is not in stone. If we have to postpone (and only because of dangerous river conditions) then the fallback date would be 2 weeks later.

Contingency plans??

Hey Linda,

I hate beyond your imagination not having the chance to fish this year. I really could have used the money, but couldn't we all...LOL. I'm just glad a "Danny" won it!!!

One question, being the river, there are more problems to deal with in regard to the river levels. When you set this up, do you consider a secondary date incase there are unsafe water levels? I know you just gave dates that are possible for next year, and that you have a fall back date, but was just curious about the safty contingency.

You are doing a fantastic job from what I can see, and I believe you will have many more anglers next year.

Danny,
You're a WUSS if you are worried about the river being at an "unsafe" level in June!!!! LOL!!!! I have fished the river for about 20 years and I have never really seen it at a "unsafe" level in June!!!!

Linda,
Just pick a date and have it! Fishermen will come!!!!!

Mark... replace that "W" with a "P", and I'll except that. You are what you eat after all... LMAO.

Sorry....

I can't help it. I've taken several classes in project management, and contingencies are just one of the things you are taught to prepare for. For instance, suppose it isn't unsafe water conditions, although that is a possibility, and maybe a more real possibility would be severe storms. Especially up around Brandenburg. LOL... I feel so sorry for those folks, it seems there are always tornados happening in that little town.

But I do know what you mean. Normally the spring "high water" season is over well before June, but you know Murphy's law too I am sure. I know if I were the planner, we would very likely have a huge flood. *sigh*

I'll tell you what... you seem to know the river a little better up there, maybe we could hook up and fish together if you don't have another partner. Maybe we could have the same 50/50 deal Danny his partner had?

Thanks Danny....we're trying over here.

Is two weeks enough for the river to improve under normal conditions?

I probably need to let others answer that. I haven't lived on the Ohio since I was in my very early 20s. Man, that was a life time ago...LOL

I really hope to see this grow larger every year. Anything that shows or brings attention to the positives of our great state and those surrounding us.

Jim, I like the idea of keeping it on the river. Sorta levels the playing field. Never know what the river will produce. I was out of town this year, but will fish it next year...I would not change anything. Keep it simple and I'm sure that the level of attendance will greatly improve next year. Maybe more notice but, they will come....good luck

The rules will be the same for next year. The length may change to 13" but that would be the only change.

We will take any entries you all would like to send in for next year. You can use the entry forms for this year. I don't see those changing either.

As long as June 8, 9 & 10 works for the fishing community---then everyone's pretty well set to go!

RE: Big Bass Big Cash Next Year

Why change the size limit to 13"? I was able to fish on Sunday of the tournament (1st time to fish the Ohio River), and managed to weight in one hourly winner. From the looks of the hourly weigh-in board, a 12" bass is hard enough to catch in some pools. One other suggestion/question. Would it be possible to hold off on all polygraphs until after the 1:00pm weigh-in, because the hourly winner loses about 45 minutes of the fishing day...Enjoyed the tournament and look forward to fishing all three days next year...

I don't know that the length will change, I would say if there are any changes at all, that would be the only one I could think of---but it doesn't mean it's going to happen.

As far as the polys go, sorry guys but that can't change. To insure the integrity--we won't let someone out of our sight between weigh-in and poly--that way no one can say he took something to calm himself. Also, if we wait to start at 1:00pm the last person being tested wouldn't get done until 7 or 8 pm. When the participation is there, guys don't mind spending 45 minutes for 250 to 300 dollars and possibly some super pool money.
