If you are familiar with Click and Clack on "Car Talk" on Public Radio, you know they have a weekly puzzler on some unfamiliar car problem. I thought a problem I just had with a Abu Garcia baitcaster would qualify for a fishing equipment puzzler. One of my fishing partners died last year and left me his fishing gear. One of the things I got was a new Abu Garcia baitcaster reel spooled with one of the "superlines." I read the instructions and adjusted the settings. Last fall I took it to Dale and hook a nice fish and to my amazement, I could not reel the fish. When I turned the handle, there was no resistance on the spool and the fish kept running. After five minutes or so the fish came unhooked. I did everything I knew to correct the situation but nothing worked. I asked a repair shop what they thought, and they said it was a problem in the reel and should be sent back to Abu Garcia. After two months at the Abu Garcia Repair Service, I got my reel back with a note attached which read..."There is nothing wrong with reel." You must do the following to prevent this situation in the future. Do you know what they wrote as a solution to this problem? The reason I am posting this puzzler is if I can pevent someone from having the same problem and having their reel out of service for an extended time, it is worth it.
