I live very close to a small river and have fished it since I was eight years old. I started out like most of us, walking down to the river with canepole , then my uncle gave me an metal rod with a baitcaster on it. Man was I good with that baitcaster with 2 oz of lead I could throw it halfway across the river. I fished for anything that would bite mainly bullheads and carp. As I got older I would ride my bike down there with an old army backpack on with my wheaties and crawlers inside. My Dad worked alot so I usually went by myself had a great time, My dad got a job closer to home with better pay less hours so he started taking me down there by then I knew some pretty good spots. My dad liked baitcasters so he bought a new Plueger Supreme freespool and shortly after that we got a 12 ft flat bottom . We started fishing pretty much just for Bass at that point. This river is certainly not known for bass mainly crappie,cats and carp but it was very close to home so we hit it alot and always had a good time. Well as with all fathers and sons it seems we grew apart and then twenty years later my sons come along and we all get together every year for a week to fish, drink a beer and tell lies.. My father passed away two years ago we had him cremated and with a tape of beetovens 5th symphony, a six pack of Old Milwaukee beer I scattered his ashes by a favorite stump we always caught bass by. I felt this was as fitting a funeral as a guy could ask for and My sons and I would pass by him every time we went down there fishing. Last spring on my first outing of the year I caught a 7 lb 11 oz largemouth and YOU guessed it,, right on the stump. It was the biggest bass I have ever caught I weighted it took pictures and let it go.I know this sounds like a story but it is true and I felt like every son that has been fishing with his Dad would enjoy it Keep Your Line Wet, StratosJoe I originally posted this on BFHP a number of years ago but thought I would share it.
